3 Team Map for DOTA 2?

Sunday, March 27, 2011

This suggestion has come up a lot in the past, with the main reason it was not being taken seriously being that icefrog should not take time off the main DotA map to develop it.

Since Valve is running the show now, and with a new engine, possibility?

Here's my idea of what a 3 team map should look like, probably 3v3v3 or 4v4v4.

Valve: DotA 2 As A Spectator Sport held a podcast interview with Valve managing director Gabe Newell and Project Manager Erik Johnson where they touched on some aspects of DotA 2 without going into too much detail. What we did take away from the interview is the fact that Valve will be putting a lot of effort into how players spectate DotA 2 games. An excerpt from the interview is below:

Newell: The piece of the puzzle that I’m always curious about is that nobody’s done a good job of making watching that (multiplayer competitive gaming) entertaining enough. If I could take six months off just to work on that problem, that’d be pretty cool. Because I think there's a huge amount of opportunity there.

DotA 2 Hardware System Requirements for PC

Valve’s DotA 2 is a sequel and is improved version with new features and enhanced graphics. As compared to Warcraft 3 DotA, Valve’s DotA 2 will probably require a PC with good tehnical Specifications in order to run on PC/Mac. DotA 2 System Requirements for PC:
  • Operating System: Windows XP®, Windows 7®, Windows Vista®
  • Processor: Intel Dual Core 2.26 GHz or AMD Athlon equivalent

Question & Answer About Dota 2

Q: Is there reconnect support for DotA 2? (by Vanes-UT)
A: This was actually one of the very first things we added early on, before the game was stable, in order to help with testing. You’ll also be able to have a friend of similar skill level substitute for you in case you have to leave. Players that want to improve their reputation in the game and community will also be able to help out by joining ongoing games that are missing players.

Q: Can I still play with my friends from America even though I am European? (by Adam Mosley)
A: Yes, a lot of people have friends in different regions and we want to allow them to easily interact. One of the things that makes DotA special is how big the community is, so we will do our best to make it easy to connect and communicate with one another.

Valve's Next Game is Dota 2

Saturday, March 26, 2011

If you've never played DotA, also known as Defense of the Ancients, trying to figure out how it all works can be confusing. This is especially true if you're hopping in with people who've been playing for years and have a fondness for lashing out at those less knowledgeable. It's a game type that grew out of Blizzard's Warcraft III community and has enjoyed widespread popularity since, spurring other developers to produce their own versions like Riot Games' League of Legends. Now that Valve's making a sequel, I think it's safe to say the spotlight on the sub-genre will be brighter than ever.

To prevent confusion over capitalization, I'm just going to write Dota for the rest of the article. According to Valve's senior project manager Erik Johnson, "When people talk about DotA they say Dota. It's kind of a word, at this point. For us it's just a word, or a brand name."
